CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT
- Thesis Question: Who was more successful with their responsibilities in the Civil Rights Movement, LBJ or MLK?
Historical Content: About 100 years after the emancipation proclamation and 13th 14th and 15th amendments were put into place, segregation continued to take place in America, particularly in the South. Schools, restaurants, buses, restrooms, even water fountains were segregated. The African Americans were being brainwashed into believing that they were worth nothing and that the whites were superior to them. There was a philosophy people followed, "separate but equal" which meant that people thought it was okay for segregation to take place as long as the separate facilities were equal. When in reality, they were not at all equal. The African American's facilities, were unsanitary, worn down, and not the same as whites' facilities. However, people soon figured out that separate but equal did not work out segregation was outlawed in public schools. Although, there was still segregation present and someone needed to step in and do something about it.
